Emergency Medical Services provides 24-hour emergency care and transportation to 284 square miles in parts of Rice, Dakota, Scott and Goodhue Counties.

EMS Services

EMS providers have constant contact with an emergency room doctor based at Northfield Hospital’s Emergency Department. They are trained in:
  • Establishing emergency airways
  • Administering medication for pain and critical illnesses
  • Starting IV’s
  • Performing advanced assessments
  • Screening for heart attacks and strokes
  • EMS providers are required to pass a post-offer physical screen (pdf)

EMS Education Classes

Our EMS education offerings are currently being revamped. 

Our apologies, but we do not anticipate hosting a 2025 fall EMR course or 2026 spring EMT completion course. 

We are planning for a spring EMT Refresher course (or two) after the first of the year (see below).

Emergency Medical Technician Refresher Course (Renewal)

This 24-hour refresher course is designed to meet the renewal requirements for registration with the Minnesota Office of EMS as well as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Completion of the full course will meet the NREMT National Continued Competency Requirements (NCCR) of twenty (20) hours for the EMT, plus an additional four hours of LCCR or ICCR.

Course Dates: Friday, Feb. 27, 6-10 p.m. (BLS CPR); Saturday, Feb. 28, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, March 1, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Course Location: Northfield Hospital and Clinics EMS, 1600 Riverview Ln, Northfield, MN 55057

Cost: Affiliated first responder agency EMT members (Northfield Area Fire and Rescue, Northfield Police Department, Elko New Market Fire and Police Departments, Lonsdale Fire and Police Departments, and Randolph-Hampton Fire Department) and affiliated college group members (Carleton and St. Olaf) attend for free. For all others, the open enrollment cost is $350.00. All fees must be paid in full by: Friday, February 13th. No payment arrangements will be offered. Agencies can be invoiced.

Registration is required. No walk-ins are allowed. Course size is limited, and registrations are handled on a first come first serve basis. A waiting list will be established if needed.
