Sports medicine is a collaborative practice drawing on the skills of primary care providers, orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, and physical therapists and occupational therapists, all dedicated to helping keep you healthy and active.

What We Treat

The sports medicine team sees patients for a wide range of injuries and chronic conditions.

For a Recent Injury: Athletes and gardeners alike suffer strains and sprains, concussions, and joint injury. Sports injuries are often related to throwing (shoulder and elbow injury), running (ankle, knee, hip, and back injury), and twisting (hip, back strain, and neck injury).

Many injuries can be treated through non-surgical therapies like physical therapy. In many situations, physical therapists are the muscle specialists who provide treatments to relieve pain and restore movement. For more complicated or serious injury, the orthopedic team can surgically repair torn muscles, ligaments, disks, and joints.

For On-going Pain: Many chronic conditions that don’t go away like – joint pain, muscle pain or weakness, back pain, or even persistent headaches – can be addressed by the sports medicine team through non-surgical treatments like injections, splints, stretching, and physical therapy.

Assessments and Rehabilitation Therapy: After an injury or surgery, occupational or physical therapy can help relieve pain and restore muscle conditioning and motion. Therapists will do a thorough assessment and create a plan just for you. We incorporate activities from your daily life and sports to promote progress.

Surgery and Post-operative Care: The orthopedic surgeons can surgically repair torn muscles, ligaments, disks and joints. After surgery, the sports medicine team can help speed your recovery through physical and occupational therapy.
